Name & identity
Batá — /bAH-tah/
A Yoruba drum that carries messages, gathers people and signals collective action.
In Yoruba tradition, the Batá is a drum that speaks. Its tones carry meaning across distance; its rhythm draws a community together and moves it to act as one.
We chose the name because our work is, at heart, about communication: an early warning that reaches a village in time, a verified record that lets a citizen ask the right question, a signal strong enough to coordinate many hands.
Sentinel completes the idea — watchfulness on behalf of the public. Together, Batá Sentinel means a community that listens, watches and responds together.
Our mark
Our symbol is an original geometric abstraction of the drum's hourglass body and the cords that tension it. The crossing lines stand for the connections between citizens, institutions and data; the two heads for listening and speaking.
The final logo will be supplied by the organisation; the mark shown here is a working version.
